The Story
James Melhuish is the Chief Instructor at his Adelaide dojo — a title earned through 25+ years of dedicated practice, competition, and teaching across Judo, Jiu-Jitsu, and Kenpo. That depth of cross-disciplinary experience is rare, and it shapes how he approaches instruction: from the ground up, with precision, and with a clear understanding of what actually works under pressure.
For screen performers, grappling and throwing technique is one of the most technically demanding areas to get right. James's curriculum at Fight Creative gives students access to that technical rigour — the kind that only comes from decades of mat time, not just a working knowledge of the systems.
His approach bridges traditional martial arts depth with the practical demands of screen choreography, giving performers a genuine foundation in the grappling vocabulary that coordinators draw on.
