The Story
Alex Roberson was a foundational member of Sword Fighter, the Gold Coast historical fencing club, when it started back in 2013. He'd already earned a black belt in a school of Korean swordsmanship — but he wanted a system he could actually spar with, and pressure-test everything he'd learned against a resisting opponent.
That instinct paid off. Alex has racked up over 300 competitive victories and more than 40 podium finishes, sits inside the world's top 50 for Longsword, Rapier, and Rapier & Dagger, and took the Queensland State Championship in 2025. He specialises in the German longsword traditions of Johannes Liechtenauer and Joachim Meyer, but it's his holistic read of fencing, physiology and tactics that has made him as effective a coach as he is a competitor.
He has trained multiple national champions, taught historical fencing to actors and stunt professionals, and directs the Australian Historical Fencing League. For Fight Creative, he brought that same grounding to the Longsword Fundamentals workshop — real 14th-century sword work, built to hold up on camera.
