Stunt & Action Industry Directory

An independent, unranked guide to Uruguay's stunt and screen-action world. Montevideo is one of South America's busiest hubs for international advertising production — car and action commercials shoot here constantly, drawn by a government cash rebate and a deep service-crew base. Narrative stunt work is smaller and runs through a handful of named specialists and SFX houses rather than a formal guild. An honest working map. No sponsorships, no rankings.

ACAU

Agencia del Cine y el Audiovisual del Uruguay

National Film Agency · Montevideo

Uruguay's top-level government audiovisual body. Created in 2022, ACAU replaced the former ICAU and manages the national Film Promotion Fund and the Uruguay Audiovisual program, issuing the tax-exemption certificates underpinning the advertising and film rebate. The single most relevant national body for any production — including action or stunt work — shooting in the country.

Uruguay Film Commission & cash-rebate program

Production Incentive & Commission · Montevideo

The official program promoting Uruguay as a production destination and administering the cash rebate that drives the country's advertising-production boom (around 20–25% on qualifying spend, plus VAT exemption on foreign productions), and listed in the AFCI directory as the Uruguay Film Commission. The single most important entity explaining why so much car/action commercial work happens in Montevideo.

ASOPROD

Asociación de Productores y Realizadores Audiovisuales del Uruguay

Producers' Association · Montevideo

Founded 1994, the main industry association of Uruguayan audiovisual producers and directors, sitting on commissions within the national film bodies. The closest thing Uruguay has to a representative body for the people who commission and budget productions — useful context for where stunt and action work is contracted (there is no dedicated stunt-performers' guild).

Montevideo Audiovisual

Montevideo Socio Audiovisual

City Film Office · Montevideo

The audiovisual unit of Montevideo's city government, handling filming permits for film, TV and advertising across the city and running local production funds. Since the bulk of Uruguay's action-commercial and stunt-driving work shoots in and around Montevideo, this is the practical local authority any production — including those closing streets for car action — must clear.

Christian Zagía

Stunt coordinator & fight choreographer

Stunt Coordinator · Montevideo / LA

The single most-cited name in Uruguayan screen action — the country's go-to stunt coordinator and fight choreographer, who came up through stage combat and broke through staging the duel for César Charlone's La redota (2011). He has coordinated combat and stunts across Uruguayan films and series and acted in the Fede Álvarez Don't Breathe / No Respires films, giving Uruguay a Hollywood-connected action presence. Listed honestly as an individual (social/press, no company site).

Montevideo Knock Out (MKO)

Combat-Sports Gym · Montevideo

Uruguay's most prominent combat-sports gym — MMA, Muay Thai, kickboxing, boxing, BJJ and wrestling. Not a screen-fight school, but in a country with no dedicated stunt or stage-combat academy, gyms like MKO are the realistic place performers build the fight and physical skills that underpin screen action.
